To use our technology, we require a minimum bandwidth of 100-150kbps for one RDP session. So, if 10 users will be accessing the machines in the cloud, they will need at least a 1.5Mbps line. The recommended line for 10 users would be 1MB.
CloudShare provides a Connectivity Test tool located at https://speedtest.cloudshare.com. This helps determine problems that could exist on either the host machine or source network being used to connect to the guest operating system(s) in the cloud.
Possible Host Machines Issues
Using the Connectivity Test Tool on each of the host machines during setup will ensure that the prerequisite plug-ins and applications are installed and the host machine is ready for the scheduled event. This tool helps determine possible issues locally on each machine and will offer suggestions to help resolve them.
To determine whether the required plug-ins and applications are installed properly, run the tool from all host machines being used to check the following:
A. CloudShare Plug-in installed? Used for RDP connection. If not found, it will provide a link in the main pane at the bottom of the Technical Details page for installing the plug-in
B. Java installed? Used for console connection. If not found, it will provide a link in the main pane and at the bottom of the Technical Details page to install Java
C. Latest RDP Control? Used for RDP connection. If an update is available, it will offer the link for the update. RDP Control version 6.0.6001 is the minimal version for accelerated RDP to work.

This Connectivity Test tool will cache a cookie on the local computer to know which technology it will use for its primary and failover connections. When finished making changes or applying the suggestions that were offered, you must run the Connectivity Test tool once again to update that saved cookie. This will ensure that the connection attempted during the session will be optimal.
Possible Source Network Issues
Using this Connectivity Test tool from any computer on the network segment will determine whether the firewall rules will allow connection through the required ports to help identify the root cause of the problem.
Tests performed on the local network determine whether the following ports are available:
- TCP 443 – Used for accelerated RDP Connection to Windows type OS (Primary)
- TCP 3389 – Used for RDP connection to Windows type OS (Secondary)
- TCP 443 – Used for console connection to both Linux and Windows type OSs
- TCP 22 – Used for SSH Connection to Linux type OS.

Known Issues and Recommendations
- Log in to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.
- For Windows 64 bit OSs (i.e., Windows 7; 2008 and Vista), always use the Internet Explorer 32 bit version. You can also try running the IE in Administrator mode by following this step:
- Click Start > All Programs. Then right-click Internet Explorer and select Run As Administrator.
- Turning off User Account Control (UAC) can help with the installation of the Internet Explorer plug-in. To turn off the UAC, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Control Panel > User Accounts.
- In the main pane, click the Change User Account Control Settings link.
- Move the slider down to Never notify and click OK.
- If you have Windows XP with SPK 2 as your operating system, make sure you are using the Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 Terminal Services.
- For Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1, and Windows Vista SP2, run the update to Remote Desktop Connection 7.0.
- You can also try disabling ActiveX filtering in IE.
