Multi-step experiences enable learning in stages, with each stage using a different environment. The different environments are maintained in different blueprints.
For example, in the first stage of an experience, you might train in a Linux environment, while in the second stage, you may train in a Microsoft Windows environment. Both stages are part of the same experience, but the components and resources for each are tailored for the different learning requirements.
The steps are set by the instructor when the experience is created. Depending on the settings, the instructor can give participants the ability to change to another step on their own.
In multi-step experiences, each step must be its own blueprint. To easily build multiple, progressive blueprints from the same original environment, you will need to take a snapshot and publish it to a new blueprint. For more, see Taking a Snapshot.
When creating a multi-step experience from a blueprint that uses external resources (e.g., Google Cloud Platform or Azure), the external cloud region that you select for the first step will become the default region for all steps in the multi-step progression. To use a region other than the default region for a subsequent experience, contact CloudShare Support.
To create a multi-step experience:
1. When creating training and sales experiences, you can toggle on the Multi-Steps Experience option to create a multi-step experience.
Note that to create a multi-step experience, you must select more than one blueprint.
2. The Allow students to move between steps option enables participants to navigate between blueprints. This option is enabled by default when a multi-step experience is enabled.
Participants can navigate between steps on their own; however, when this is disabled, switching steps will be controlled by the instructor.
3. In the Blueprints field, select the blueprints that will be used at each stage.
4. Complete the remaining steps for creating your experience. See the articles on creating training and sales experiences, for additional information.
You can also change the multi-step settings before the class starts, in the experience’s Details tab.
Note: Customizing a multi-step experience is not supported through the Editor.
Instructor View
In the Instructor Console, you can move participants from one step to the next, using the Allow students to move between steps option, as described above.
1. From the Students tab at the left side of the Instructor Console, select each of the participant(s) for whom you want to change steps.
2. Select the step to move to (note that this will delete the participant’s current environment).
Participant View
The Allow students to move between steps option enables participants to navigate between blueprints in a multi-step experience. When the instructor has enabled this option, participants will be able to switch steps using a button that appears in the CloudShare Viewer.
1. From the Environment Actions drop-down at the top of the Viewer, click Switch Step.
2. From the available choices, select and confirm the step you need.
Important! Use care when moving between stages. Whenever you change to another step in the experience (forward or backward), the currently active environment will be overwritten and replaced with the new one.
